School Festival Highlights Houthi Strategy to Use Education for Child Recruitment and Indoctrination

On January 10, 2023, the administration of the Khawla Girls’ School in Mahwit suspended classes and forced students to attend a partisan festival supervised by local Houthi officials. During the festival students heard speeches that glorified Houthi leaders and ideology, demonized opponents of the Houthi movement, urged them to donate to the war effort, and to encourage their male relatives to sign up for military service.
