Statement by the Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition: Ten Years of Torture in Yemen Highlight the Need for Justice and Accountability

On the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, the Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition released a joint statement exposing ongoing, systematic torture across Yemen by all parties to the conflict. Despite a decade of war, survivors remain without justice, reparations, or recognition.

The statement documents widespread abuses — including arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, and physical and psychological torture — targeting aid workers, journalists, and women. In 2025, the Houthi group detained several UN staff members; many remain forcibly disappeared.

Grave violations were also reported in Aden and Marib, implicating the Southern Transitional Council and the internationally recognized government. Over 2,600 cases of torture have been documented between 2016 and 2022.

The Coalition calls for urgent international action to release detainees, investigate violations, and ensure accountability is central to any future peace process.
