On World Press Freedom Day (May 3, 2026), the Justice for Yemen Pact Coalition, together with local and international organizations, warns of the continued decline of press freedom in Yemen amid conflict and weak rule of law. Journalists face serious violations, including killings, detention, and restrictions, while impunity fuels fear and self-censorship.
Women journalists are particularly targeted, and digital repression—such as censorship and website blocking—is increasing.
The statement stresses that a free press is essential for accountability and sustainable peace, and calls for independent and transparent investigations into all violations against journalists to end impunity, alongside broader efforts to protect media freedom and support independent journalism.
