On this International Day for Mine Awareness, the Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition calls for an immediate end to the use of landmines in Yemen. Landmines and explosive remnants of war (ERWs) continue to devastate communities, leaving behind fear, casualties, and long-term suffering. With Yemen ranking among the most heavily mined countries, urgent action is needed to halt their deployment, enhance demining efforts, and support affected victims.
The Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition calls for an immediate halt to landmine deployment, urging all warring parties, particularly the Houthis, to cease using landmines and disclose contaminated areas to facilitate demining. The United Nations must ensure strict oversight of demining support, halting funding for Houthi-led efforts unless compliance is verified. Additionally, the international community must enhance financial and technical aid for demining operations and civil society groups working on victim assistance, awareness, and protection to mitigate the devastating impact of landmines on Yemeni communities.
