On the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, the Justice for Yemen Pact and 23 civil society organizations call for urgent action to protect education and children in Yemen.

After more than 11 years of conflict, millions of Yemeni children continue to face disrupted education, while schools have been damaged, used for military purposes, or turned into environments of recruitment and mobilization.

With an estimated 3.2 million children out of school, protecting education must mean more than protecting school buildings—it means protecting children from recruitment, violence, exploitation, and other risks.

We call on all parties to the conflict to neutralize schools and universities, end child recruitment and military use of educational facilities, protect students and teachers, and ensure access to safe and inclusive education.

We also urge the international community and donors to strengthen support for Yemen’s education sector, as well as monitoring, documentation, accountability, protection, and reintegration efforts.
