Statement: Landmines in Yemen – An Ongoing Threat to Civilians

4 April 2026 | Justice for Yemen Pact Coalition

On the International Day for Mine Awareness, the Justice for Yemen Pact Coalition warns that landmines and explosive remnants of war continue to claim lives and block recovery. Civilians, especially women and children, are repeatedly harmed while carrying out daily activities—showing that these are not accidents, but the result of indiscriminate mine‑laying that violates international humanitarian law.

Millions of mines remain across roads, farms, and homes, preventing displaced families from returning and paralyzing livelihoods. Clearance efforts have reclaimed land, but the scale of contamination far exceeds available resources.

The Coalition calls for: an immediate and unconditional halt to all landmine use, full compliance with international humanitarian law, accurate contamination maps from all parties, increased international support for mine clearance, and expanded assistance for victims.
