Peace from Within documents the experience of the Community Consensus and Reconciliation Committee in Taiz led by SAM for rights and Liberties and Abductees mother association with DT Institute support under SPARK project, a locally driven initiative established in 2025 to address conflict and justice gaps created by years of war and institutional collapse. Operating in urban and rural districts, the Committee brings together respected community figures, legal experts, women, and representatives of marginalized groups to mediate disputes, document violations, and promote restorative justice.
Through community-based mediation, legal documentation, and coordination with local authorities and civil society, the Committee has helped de-escalate land, property, family, and humanitarian conflicts, restore looted homes, and protect vulnerable groups, including children and displaced persons. The experience demonstrates how community-owned reconciliation mechanisms can rebuild trust, restore rights, and lay practical foundations for transitional justice and sustainable peace in Taiz.
