After a decade of conflict in Yemen, pursuing peace has become a crucial need for Yemeni society. To advance the peace-building process, we are excited to launch our project, “Supporting Peace in Yemen through Accountability, Reconciliation, and Knowledge-Sharing” (SPARK). We are proud to implement this project in partnership with SAM Organization for Rights and Liberties and Abductees’ Mothers Association (AMA) in Yemen. The project is planned to be executed over a 24-month period.

This initiative is designed to enhance peace in Yemen through a restorative justice approach to transitional justice (TJ). It aims to repair the harm inflicted by past atrocities, foster reconciliation, and rebuild social cohesion by prioritizing the needs and voices of survivors.

The project will employ a three-phase strategy: First, a comprehensive rapid assessment will be conducted to gather Yemeni perspectives on transitional justice and identify the most effective approaches while gauging the capacity of Yemeni civil society across six governorates. Second, we will execute community-led pilot programs in Taiz and Marib, with a strong focus on inclusive stakeholder engagement. Finally, we will conclude with a TJ Summit to disseminate our findings, encourage cross-stakeholder collaboration, and facilitate knowledge transfer. Throughout its implementation, SPARK will emphasize community ownership, gender sensitivity, and collaboration with key domestic actors.
