Joint Statement: Torture, Arbitrary Detention, and Enforced Disappearance Persist in Yemen Amid Continued Impunity

On 26 June 2026, the Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition issued a joint statement marking the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, highlighting the continued prevalence of torture, arbitrary detention, and enforced disappearance in Yemen after more than a decade of conflict.

The Coalition warned that serious violations continue to be committed by all parties to the conflict amid the absence of effective accountability mechanisms, leaving thousands of victims and their families without justice or redress. The statement also emphasized that the release of detainees, while important, cannot substitute for accountability, truth, and reparations.

The Coalition called on the United Nations, the Security Council, and Yemeni stakeholders to ensure the release of all arbitrarily detained individuals, investigate cases of torture and enforced disappearance, and place accountability at the center of any future political settlement.

The statement reaffirmed that justice for victims is essential for achieving reconciliation, sustainable peace, and respect for human rights in Yemen.
