Study on Media Disinformation and Violations Against Childhood in Yemen

The Yemeni Coalition for Monitoring Human Rights Violations (YCMHRV), in partnership with the DT Institute, has released a pioneering study examining how media disinformation fuels and conceals grave violations against children in Yemen’s ongoing conflict. Drawing on qualitative analysis of 18 documented disinformation cases (2024–2025) and a field survey of 62 journalists, researchers, and child-rights activists, the study finds that coordinated narrative manipulation—such as shifting blame between conflict parties, discrediting victims, reframing violations, and imposing media blackouts—directly obstructs truth-seeking and accountability. With 80% of respondents confirming that disinformation significantly impedes documentation and justice efforts, the research concludes that misinformation is not a secondary issue but a structural driver that deepens victims’ harm, distorts public perception, weakens media credibility, and reinforces impunity, ultimately undermining the protection of children and prospects for sustainable peace.
