A Child’s Endless Wait: Salim Ribban and His Abducted Father Catastrophe (Blog from Justice4Yemen coalition member, Musaala organization for Human rights)

Salim Ribban’s story is a poignant reflection of the deep suffering inflicted on innocent civilians by the prolonged conflict in Yemen. Born in the midst of war in March 2019, Salim’s father was abducted by the Houthis while seeking medical help for his laboring wife. Over five years later, Salim has never met his father, only hearing confusing stories and seeing a tear-stained photo kept by his mother. This family, like many others, endures continuous sorrow and endless waiting for their loved one’s return. The Abductees’ Mothers Association highlights the worsening humanitarian situation for families of abducted breadwinners, with over 420 civilians still in captivity. Salim’s story underscores the broader impact of the conflict on thousands of children and families, who bear the heavy burden of a war they did not choose. This narrative is a powerful call for peace and the safe return of all abducted individuals, emphasizing the urgent need to end the suffering of Yemen’s innocent civilians.
