Justice4Yemen Pact Statement on the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists: “Journalism in Yemen — Silenced Truth and Absent Justice

As the world observes the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, the Justice4Yemen Pact Coalition draws attention to the continuing and alarming violations against journalists in Yemen — a country that has become one of the most dangerous places in the world for media professionals.

Over ten years of conflict have turned journalism in Yemen into a life-threatening mission. Journalists are routinely subjected to abduction, imprisonment, torture, and even targeted killings simply for carrying out their work. Media and human rights organizations have documented more than 3,000 violations, including over 60 killings, hundreds of arbitrary arrests, and forced disappearances.

This year, the Coalition issues a statement titled “Journalism in Yemen: Silenced Truth and Absent Justice,” highlighting the urgent need to end impunity and integrate journalists’ cases into transitional justice processes. The Coalition calls on all warring parties, international actors, and human rights institutions to ensure accountability, protection, and justice for Yemen’s journalists.
