Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to advocating for human rights in Yemen amid the region’s critical challenges, the coalition conducted an advocacy mission to Geneva on January 14. Over the mission, the coalition engaged in high-level bilateral meetings with key stakeholders deeply involved in addressing Yemen’s human rights situation. These included representatives from the Human Rights Commission, UN Special Procedures, and the U.S. Mission to Geneva.
During these strategic discussions, the coalition showcased its efforts to advance human rights and transitional justice in Yemen. They emphasized the imperative of conducting impartial and transparent investigations into alleged violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws by all parties to the conflict. These investigations, they stressed, must result in publicized findings to ensure accountability and bring perpetrators of such violations to justice. Additionally, the coalition underscored the critical importance of embedding transitional justice, accountability, and reparations as fundamental components of any peace agreement or political settlement in Yemen. They advocated for these measures to be designed through an inclusive process that actively involves victims, survivors, and civil society organizations.
Through these concerted efforts, the coalition aims to foster accountability, promote justice, and contribute to establishing a sustainable framework for peace and human rights in Yemen.
